Slovenian Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have concluded an umbrella Agreement on Cooperation in Culture, Education and Science. In the field of education, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport is organizing and financing Slovenian courses in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Banja Luka and Zenica. Each year there are many students interested in attending the Summer School of the Slovenian Language in Slovenia, which is also financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia. The Ministry is currently considering the possibility of re-establishing the Department of the Slovenian Language at the University in Sarajevo.
According to the data available in the Slovenian community there are approximately 10,000 people in BiH who are either Slovenians or have Slovenian ancestors. Majority of Slovenians live in Sarajevo.
